If it’s one thing kids are known for, it’s being unpredictable. Just as they start sleeping through the night, they start teething. One day they love strawberries, and the next, they literally run away when you offer them up. One minute, you think you’ve escaped the latest illness that’s gone around. The next thing you know, you have a sick kid on your hands. Although illness is an unfortunate reality of parenthood, we’ve discovered something that’ll put a smile on your face!
Enter: Sick. Sick makes fashionable and functional totes for moms on the go. On the outside, you see a sleek and luxurious tote. Once you peek inside, you’ll see that the lining of each tote has adorable cartoons relating to a specific illness that can affect children, such as streptococcus, e. coli, and coxsakie. Not only is a portion of each sale donated to help fight and cure pediatric ailments, but Sick donates the money local to where it was purchased. How cool is that? They come in three neutral colors, ensuring that they’ll match any outfit you’re wearing. I love how it looks like a handbag, but it’s so much more than that. The original ToteSavvy slips right in, and you’re ready to go. What’s not to love?
It’s such a coincidence that I have been using the coxsakie tote, as I myself have fallen victim to hand, foot, and mouth disease. It is no joke, my friends. One of the many things I love about the tote is that the entire thing is wipeable. Thank goodness for that! When your kid is sick, who knows what’s going to happen!
Although I still carry the basics in my ToteSavvy, here are a few things I pack if my daughter isn’t feeling well:
- Instead of having a spare outfit in the car, I carry it with me. Make sure the spare outfit is the right size, though, otherwise you’re in trouble. Don’t ask me how I know.
- A spare outfit for yourself just in case (leggings and a tunic will fit perfectly)
- Extra diapers (more than you’d usually carry) and Water Wipes
- Aquaphor for any irritated areas
- A cuddly blanket - we love our bamboo ones from Baby Tula
- My daughter’s favorite snacks: a smoothie in a Squeasy Snacker and Little Nibblers from Ella’s Kitchen
- I love the small hand sanitizers that come in silicone cases. I hook one on to a ToteSavvy handle for easy access.
In addition to diaper wipes, Boogie Wipes are an absolute must. These saline wipes are the only thing that will clean up a snotty, crusty nose. They are gentle on the skin and so effective! No child is going to sit still for ten minutes while you tug at their face with a regular wipe, trying to get their nose clean. Boogie Wipes break those suckers down in no time. Trust me.
Speaking of noses, I cannot speak highly enough about the Nose Frida. Not only is it completely sanitary -it has washable parts and disposable filters- but it is much more effective than the traditional bulb syringe. It has better suction due to the fact that you literally suck the mucus out of your child’s nose using the mouthpiece. Don’t worry, the filter prevents any transfer of bacteria. I’ll admit, I was a little nervous to use it the first time. However, it only took that one time for me to be hooked for life. Seriously.
I love how I can conceal all of these less-than-glamorous things in one of Sick’s beautiful totes, and I can keep everything organized with ToteSavvy. You’ll likely be carrying around a little bit more when your child is ill, however, Sick and ToteSavvy have got you covered!
